Dr. Dog – XPoNential Music Festival
From their opening song “Shadow People” to their encore performance of “Jackie Wants a Black Eye,” Dr. Dog kept festival goers on their feet and cheering at the River Stage. The Philadelphia-bred band, known for their lo-fi, slightly psychedelic indie sound, Dr. Dog is made up of two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and a keys player. The lead guitarist, Scott McMicken, and the bassist, Toby Leaman, shared lead vocals, while the rest of the band contributed harmonies. The set featured what have become some of Dr. Dog’s staples: Sharp guitars, a tight rhythm section, and unconventional, interesting song structure. Owing a great deal of their sound to the 1960’s psychedelic scene, Dr. Dog seemed like the perfect follow-up to the similarly surreal Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
One of the more famous Philadelphia bands of recent times, the crowd was extremely adoring of Dr. Dog. Fans were left screaming their delight, as the band tore through their deep catalog of songs, playing fan-favorites as well as some newer songs, like the aforementioned “Shadow People” and “Shame, Shame.” Dr. Dog’s refreshing brand of rock and roll energy gave the crowd a big spark after a long day of festivities, and in the process confirmed the fact that Dr. Dog is one of the best bands to come out of Philadelphia today.

Thanks for the great show Dr. Dog. The fourth song is actually called ‘The Beach’, not Fate.
Loved this show.. i must, however, note that the 4th song played was entitled, “The Beach”, not “Fate”.
