My Morning Download 7/13/10 – Lights On

Let’s go to San Diego, shall we? Lights On are one heckuva band to check out from SD. Formed a few years ago, the band released a spritefully delicious debut EP that got them rave local reviews. Recently they’ve self-released their proper debut album, Here Comes The Ocean and it’s a fantastic collection of rock and roll.

These guys really know how to distill some of the great sounds of our times: Echo & The Bunnymen, The Wedding Present, the Modern Lovers and put their own original indie-rock/pop spin on things. The band includes Tim Hines on vocals, guitars & keyboards, Mike Kamoo on guitar; Andrew Bernhardt on guitars, vocals & keyboards and the rhythm section of bassist Robert Netcoh and drummer Brian Murray. Lights On are one totally cool new wave band with indie rock clothes on. Or maybe it’s the other way around. The harmonies are near perfect; the hard to forget melodies you can’t walk away from. And the guitars just resonate with power chords, tasty little nuances and full speed ahead rawk.

And New York, you’ve got three chances to see them by the end of this coming weekend so check them out at the Knitting Factory, Cake Shop or Union Hall before they head back home.
