Paul Butterfield/Electric Factory

by Dennis Showers, Reading, Pennsylvania

Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s we regularly attended the shows at the original Electric Factory at 22nd and Arch. This lead me to be a real rock and roll fan. One Sunday evening and I can’t recall the exact date, the Paul Butterfield Band played with some of the greatest members of his band, i.e., Mike Bloomfield and Elvan Bishop were there. Paul came out onto the floor, sat beside me and sang “Tolling Bells.” This just moved me and I became a real rock fan. As I matured I still listened to rock and one eve I was at a friend’s house and discovered the Blues Show on XPN. Jonny played Paul Butterfield’s “Tolling Bells” and since then I have been reintroduced to the great rock and roll both now and then and have been a member ever since.
