Angie
by Annette Lemma, Gilbertsville, PA
Angie exuded charisma. The older sister of my friend, she was beautiful, popular, and friendly — even to the underclassmen in our high school. After her graduation, Angie was involved in a car accident which left her brain-injured and in a coma. Her family prayed every day at her bedside and sang this song to her constantly. I witnessed their devotion to her. It was palpable…wishing, hoping, praying that this song would reach her and bring her back.
Angie died about 10 years ago. I remember her and her loving family and I shed a tear whenever I hear the sad strains of guitar and Mick’s lyrics cracking with emotion: “You can’t say we never tried.”
