First Springsteen Concert - May 1978
by Donald, Collegeville, PA
I was convinced Springsteen was overrated. As a young teen still into Top 40 Radio when The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle came out, I didn’t get what everyone was raving about. The hype for Born to Run and the simultaneous covers on Time and Newsweek bothered me and I became part of the Springsteen is overrated club. And then a friend got me tickets for the early shows of the Darkness on the Edge of Town Tour in May 1978 (I think the show was before the album was even released) and somehow he got 8th row tickets on the floor at the Spectrum and convinced me to go. I went into the show convinced I would be disappointed. Needless to say it was the greatest concert I ever saw up until that time and have been a Springsteen fan ever since.
