885 Most Memorable Musical Moments

The day after

by Bob Hill Sr., Oreland, PA

It was the day after the worst memory of my life; the events of 9.11.01 had left me numb with sorrow, pain and hate. I sat at work in a police car in a state of shock at the deaths of all those cops, firemen, emergency service workers and the countless innocent Americans who had died such sudden, painful deaths. I listened to 885 as I have every day since 1989 and heard the same feelings I was feeling in Michaela’s voice. She asked for a musical request and I called her and asked her to play Peter Himmleman’s “Impermanent Things,” which I dedicated in memory of all the people lost. As I listened to that beautiful song, I began to cry and I realized it was the first time since the awful attack had started. Boy did I need to do that. As I cried I thought of all those people who had been lost. Once again, it showed the power of music!
