Carbon/Silicon - The Last Post - Caroline

Perhaps the most pleasant musical surprise of '07, Carbon/Silicon's The Last Post is chock full of powerful, somewhat snarling rock & roll. Led by Mick Jones (The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite) and Tony James (Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnik), there's really nothing not to like about the whole project.

Anthemic numbers like "The Whole Truth", "Acton Zulus", and "Tell It Like It Is" anchor this 12-song collection. Jones sounds confident and cool as lead singer, the album is produced way loud (good thing, this is...), and most of these tracks are pretty much instantly memorable. We'll even forgive Jones for nicking himself and the late Joe Strummer on the "Clash City Rockers" doppelganger "What The F**k?". "Really The Blues" is a very cool tune, both lyrically and musically, Clash-like precision.

I like it better every time I listen, and should really be getting more national and international attention than I see that it's gotten thus far. The Last Post is not to be missed.
