Sasha Dobson: WXPN's October 2006 Artist to Watch

Sasha Dobson

Singer-songwriter Sasha Dobson upholds the jazz tradition of past greats like Ella Fitzgerald while breaking conventional rules. Her sultry voice, amazing talent and extensive performance experience makes her a very notable artist to watch.

Originally from Santa Cruz, she began performing jazz professionally since she was only sixteen. Now in New York, she and her band create music that is a unique fusion of Brazilian, American and jazz styles.

Growing up, jazz was a way of life for this beautiful, young songstress. The daughter of two of the San Francisco Bay area's notable jazz musicians, late pianist Smith Dobson and singer Gail Dobson, Sasha has both the genes and a strong musical foundation to make uplifting jazz. Her talent allowed this prolific artist to graduate high school by the age of 15 and begin applying to music colleges by 17. She has long performed with the Dobson Family Band and the Chris Byars Octet. With ten years of professional experience at only 26 and so much promise, she has amazing success ahead of her.
