Divine Fits

credit Pamela Littky The Divine Fits are an indie rock group comprised of Spoon’s Britt Daniel, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs, and New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown. A few years ago, Daniel attended a Handsome Furs concert; he and Boeckner have remained friends ever since.
When the Furs dissolved in 2011, Daniel suggested starting a band and Boeckner immediately agreed. Because of the member’s indie rock pedigree, the Divine Fits have been referred to as a supergroup though the band itself finds that term offensive. They have stressed that this group is not a vanity project but rather a real band with ongoing plans for the future. The band’s sound is eclectic ranging from urgent acoustic jams to quiet, sincere crooning. Their highly anticipated new album A Thing Called Divine Fits is out August 28. The album opens with the catchy, pulsing “My Love is Real” and includes a cover of “Shiver”, which Daniel sings compellingly and Boeckner does justice to on the guitar. Ultimately, A Thing Called Divine Fits blends both the styles and voices of Daniel and Boeckner with a convincing synthesis.
