Elephant Stone

Canadian indie rock band Elephant Stone was formed in Montreal back in 2009 by sitarist and bassist Rishi Dhir. After leaving his former band The High Dials, Dhir began to explore Indian classical music, yet he realized that artists in 1960s pop he grew up with, such as The Beatles and The Kinks, had significant influence over how he played. Thus, the songs of Elephant stone draw upon traditional aspects of Indian music while delving into the realms of psychedelic pop.

The band released its debut album, The Seven Seas, in 2009 under Dhir’s own record label, Elephants on Parade. The album was long-listed for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, and the band was warmly welcomed into the indie/psyche music scene. In 2010/2011, the group produced its first EP, The Glass Box EP, which became a major supporting slot for the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s North American and European/UK tours.

Elephant Stone has recently released the new seven-inch single “Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin” from its upcoming self-titled album B/W Strangers. The band is currently on tour in Canada and will be coming to the U.S. towards the end of November.
