Aaron Embry

  • Listen:
Aaron Embry On World Cafe The multifaceted musician plays songs from his solo debut, Tiny Prayers. The album was inspired by his time on the Big Easy Express tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Mumford & Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show.

If Aaron Embry's name doesn't sound familiar, the names of his previous collaborators certainly will. Embry recently played as a pianist in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, but also worked with Elliott Smith, Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. Multifacted and multi-talented, in 2009 alone, Embry both composed a score for Yukio Mishima's silent film, Patriotism, and also produced Avi Buffalo's debut album. Yet throughout his diverse, nearly two-decade career, Embry never released a solo album - until now.

Aaron Embry's Tiny Prayers is a sparse, soft piano album. His tone ranges from jazz to folk to a somber melodic quality reminiscient of Elliott Smith himself. The album's eclectic sound was influenced by the time that Embry spent touring with Edward Sharpe, in particular during the band's train tour with Old Crow Medicine and Mumford and Sons. Hear Embry's tracks - played live - "No Go," "Your Heart and Mine," and "When All is Gone" on this session of World Cafe.
