Duane Allman - The Greatest Slide Guitarist Ever

Is Duane Allman The Greatest Slide Guitarist Ever?

July 4, 2013 - Certainly fans of current Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks might put up an argument, but there is ample evidence on the new box set Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective to support believers in the talent of the guitarist who died at the age of 24 in 1971.

At that time our guest, his daughter Galadrielle Allman, was only two. She joins us today to present music from the lovingly curated set of Duane’s music. The music ranges from The Escorts –Duane’s first high school band - to numerous brilliant stints as a sideman at Muscle Shoals helping records by Wilson Picket, Aretha Franklin and others. Our conversation of course includes Derek and The Dominoes – Duane set a fire under Eric Clapton’s sessions for the band’s one-and-only album – and the Allman Brothers. Galadrielle Allman is also researching a biography of her father who she never got to know firsthand.
