Beach House: January 2010's Artist to Watch

With a beautifully confident style, Beach House's rich and atmospheric sound have brought them to the forefront of today's indie scene. The dream pop-rock duo formed in 2005 after a chance meeting between guitarist/keyboardist Alex Scally and vocalist/organist Victoria Legrand.

Little did they know that their music would quickly drift to success after the release of their self-titled debut album. The effect of their emotional, summer getaway sound, with its entrancing effects, landed them the #16 spot on Pitchfork's best albums of 2006. Since then, the pair has supported subsequent albums with extensive tours across the country, including their most recent tour with Grizzly Bear in support of their upcoming album Teen Dream. Legrand has also collaborated with Grizzly Bear for the song "Two Weeks" and the Twilight: New Moon track "Slow Life."

Due for release at the end of the month, Teen Dream is one of the most highly anticipated albums in the new year. Recorded in upstate New York in a church called Dreamland, it's the duo's first album on Sup Pop Records. From start to finish, they remain faithful to their mysteriously dreamy sound featuring Legrand's swooning airy vocals, and billowing swirls of guitar, synths, organs, and subtle drums. They've managed to float through every track with new found maturity, making them this month's Artist to Watch.
