If it was any other artist, you’d wonder if Björk’s latest music video was inspired by a fictional Midjourney AI world, created by the elaborate algorithms of its machine learning system. But with a track record of mesmerizing us with her off-the-wall fashion styles and elaborate visual companions to her music – it comes as no surprise visuals on her “Apotos” video are yet another example of her eccentric, otherworldly style. It’s the lead single from her forthcoming tenth studio album Fossora, set for release on Sept. 30. Björk’s first album in five years.

During an interview with Björk, The Guardian explains, “Compared with the cloudy electronics of 2017s Utopia, it is organic and spacious, earthbound rather than dreamy, and filled with warmth and breath. It is also a world of contrasts: the album’s two lodestones are bass clarinet and violent outbursts of gabber. There are moments of astonishing virtuosity and bewildering complexity and, like much of her recent music, a resistance to easy melody.”

Upon sharing the video, Björk introduces “Apotos” as “kinda like Fossora´s passport. Sonically this is a heavy bottom-ended bass world. We have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub drilling, nesting and digging us into the ground.” Enjoy.
