This Year is the 5th Anniversary of XPN Free At Noon
Indie poppers Nada Surf, made up of Matthew Caws, Daniel Lorca and Ira Elliot, have been a band for over 12 years. After Caws and Lorca met in high school, they began playing together and performing in small venues throughout New York City. When Elliot joined them in 1995, the newly formed trio pushed towards producing their debut LP "High/Low," which included their hit MTV track "Popular." Though they initially met success mostly across seas, by the time their 2003 album "Let Go" was released, they were a main hit here in the states. Over the years to follow the band would release a a total of five studio albums, all of which displayed their rich rock pop style, which is full of driving rhythms, great guitar riffs and incredibly sincere and honest lyrics.
Following their emotionally restless though overall optimistic album "Lucky," the trio takes a completely unexpected turn. Even though their latest album "if i had a hi-fi" displays the same sense of careful attention to haromony and craftsmanship, they've managed to do so while covering their favorite songs. That's right, this is a complete cover collection, ranging from covers of Kate Bush to the Go-Betweens to Bill Fox. It seems that not too long ago they had finished up their tour for "Lucky," but they are back in action this spring with a full-fledged international tour lined up.

Due to the construction in the area, free parking is no longer available for XPN Free At Noon shows. Metered parking on 31st street is no longer available, and metered parking on Walnut Street is extremely limited as a result of the closure and reconstruction of the South Street Bridge, and the rerouting of traffic onto Walnut Street.
Public transportation to XPN Free At Noon is recommended. WXPN has made arrangements with the University of Pennsylvania to open UPENN Lot #26 on Walnut Street between the hours of 10:30am and 2pm every Friday.
