On Saturday, June 21, Philadelphia will join more than 500 other cities worldwide that celebrate music on the first day of summer, the longest day of the year. Make Music Philly is Philly's, only free, "do it yourself" festival, featuring organized concerts and informal performances by professionals and amateurs of all genres and ages.

MAKE MUSIC PHILLY KICK OFF:
Play Along Percussion Party with Philly Drum Project

Join XPN and Philly Drum Project as we officially declare June 21 Make Music Philly Day!

Enjoy an improvisational performance by a drum ensemble curated by the Philly Drum Project that includes noted Philly players CHUCK TREECE (G. Love, King Britt, McRad), SPANKY MCCURDY (Lady Gaga, Jill Scott), JOSH AARON (The Lawsuits), RICARDO LAGOMASINO (Deleted Scenes, Buried Beds, Many Arms), and KEATON THANDI (Ali Wadsworth, Satellite Hearts)and a community performance arranged on the spot.

Bring a percussion instrument of your choice and join in on the performance. Suggested instruments include (but are not limited to): snare drum, tom tom, cymbal, djembe, cowbell, bongos or vibraslap. Makeshift instruments welcome such as 5-gallon bucket, trash can lids, saucepans… be creative!

A limited number of drumsticks will be provided, compliments of Zildjan.

Anyone of any age and ability can bring their harmonica or use one supplied by Hohner to join in a huge harmonica jam session led by John Colgan-Davis of the Dukes of Destiny. The Make Music Philly closing concert follows with with an opening set by Ted Leo followed by internationally-known talent Lee Fields & The Expressions performing a set of their unique, crowd-pleasing style of soul

The plan is to double the events in our second year with at least 300 performance. Also, this year, Make Music Philly will culminate in a free concert to take place at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River waterfront to close the event (artists to be announced).

Register to perform or host a performance at the Make Music Philly website! Check out MakeMusicPhilly.org and the Match-Up Software system.
MakeMusicPhilly.org features special software to match artists who wish to perform with available performance spaces. Venues, promoters, community and arts organizations, businesses and anyone who loves music and wants to see and hear it flourish in Philadelphia are encouraged to register at the site, and help create Make Music Philly events. The website is also your resource for all information about Make Music Philly and the free music events taking place on June 21!
