News, Cultural and Public Affairs Assistant Intern
(10-20 hours per week
Position may include some early days,
begin at 5:30 a.m.)

Duties: Work as WXPN news stringer, attend city and suburban press conferences, and write news stories. Log and edit interviews into sound bites for newscasts, and help edit and produce actualities in news slots. Assist with creating, producing and hosting of public affairs specialty programs, Penn Student Views (focusing on Penn community and issues) and Public Access. Responsible for booking guests, conducting research, developing questions and content for interviews, and recording and editing final product.
Qualifications: Must be a Penn Student to apply! Candidate
must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability
to get along well with people. S/he must have a good "nose" for XPN/NPR style news, and be able to write copy. S/he must be enthusiastic and a quick learner, and be able to work with a minimum of supervision. S/he must have basic computer skills and knowledge of office procedure. The ability to record and edit tape, especially digital, is a plus!
