Internships: World Cafe Programming

WXPN & World Cafe Programming Assistant

(Several positions 15-40 hours per week)

Duties: Programming Assistant interns work with National Public Radio's World Cafe and XPN programming staff on a broad range of tasks including:

  • Artist hospitality & talent relations: Escort World Cafe recording artists on-site, load bands in and out, coordinate hospitality for weekly Free at Noon concerts, take pictures for web posting
  • Develop prep files for the World Cafe host containing extensive research about artists booked to perform. This requires online research for press, bios, and lyrics
  • Ongoing research of forthcoming books and movies related to music
  • Format World Cafe host's scripts and organize show info daily for affiliates
  • Research and organize World Cafe playlist information
  • Write promotional copy about upcoming World Cafe shows for online publication and for radio hosts to read on air
  • Maintain online calendars of World Cafe bookings and broadcasts
  • Other duties as needed including general clerical tasks

Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of 15 hours available, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm. Successful candidates will be reliable, detail-oriented, have great interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently. This team does tons of research, so candidates must be web savvy and have good PC skills in Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook. An interest in exploring a career in media/entertainment and a familiarity with the music XPN and World Cafe plays is highly desirable.
