Slo-Mo feat. Mic-Wrecka

Slo-Mo featuring Mic-Wrecka
"You say who is Slo-Mo?" asked Bruce Springsteen during a recent stint as guest DJ on Sirius/XPM E Street Radio. "The folks in Philadelphia know, or some of the folks in Philadelphia know," added The Boss and mentioned three songs, "Happy Gets Lucky," "Wicked Son", and "Another Mountain" from 2001's Novelty "great stuff," before playing "Shackamaxon" from 2005's My Buzz Comes Back.

Local music fans are doubtless familiar with Slo-Mo, aka Mike Brenner, a Philly-based steel guitarist who's been a touring and session musician with Marah, Badly Drawn Boy, Magnolia Electric Co., Steve Albini and loads more. Nothing about Brenner's musical past really suggested an interest in hip-hop, yet here he joins West Philly's Mic Wrecka, a rapper with a natural, easy flow that seamlessly blends with the rock and Latin rhythms Brenner's cooked up.

After the duo's overwhelming success with their 2001 release, My Buzz Comes Back, they decided there was something undeniable about their music that caught the ear of fans all over the country. With the release of their second album Smokey Mountain, Brenner and Wrecka continue their co-writing and re-defining of Slo-Mo. This time, the live line-up of Brenner, Wrecka, drummer Mark Schreiber, bassist Steve Demarest, percussionist Hoagy Wing and fabulous singers Sue Rosetti, Steph Hayes and Lauren Hart pumps up the tunes with a more organic groove.

Mutlu Mutlu
Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Mutlu is attracting a national audience for his marketable blend of soul, reggae, hip-hop and Brazilian jazz. Drawing inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Bob Marley, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mutlu resists pigeonholing with the help of cool grooves and a quick wit. Mutlu's songs sound foreign and familiar, risky and romantic. Fans outside of Philly got a taste of his music during well-received stints with Amos Lee on Lee's tours in America and abroad. Mutlu's performances ultimately caught the attention of a major label, which recently released Livin' It with the help of guests Daryl Hall, Amos Lee and G. Love.
