Latin Roots#46 – Latin Roots Jasmine Garsd With Some Spooky Legends For The Day Of The Dead

Latin Roots Jasmine Garsd With Some Spooky Legends For The Day Of The Dead

October 31, 2013 - In the Latin world the big celebration this time of year is for The Day of The Dead, not Halloween. Jasmine Garsd of NPR ‘s Alt.Latino explains in our Latin Roots segment that The Day Of The Dead is far more a day of remembrance than anything scary.
Nonetheless she has chosen three songs for us today drawn from spooky legends. The best known is “La Llorona” a classic Mexican story about a woman who drowns her own children. We’ll also hear the story of “El Sombreron”. Let’s just say, ladies, don’t be seduced by the dude in the very large hat- it won’t end well. There is also the story of “El Fantasma de Canterville” based on Oscar Wilde’s The Ghost of Canterville. Check out the Spotify list Jasmine picked for more!

Latin Roots is made possible by a grant from The Wyncote Foundation.
