Gene Shay: Grandfather of Philadelphia Folk Music
Gene Shay produces XPN's weekly folk show and is the founder and original emcee of the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Gene has been deemed "The dean of American folk DJs" by The Philadelphia Daily News and "the grandfather of Philadelphia Folk Music" by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Philadelphia Folksong Society
Unique among cultural organizations, the Philadelphia Folksong Society is an educational group dedicated to the enjoyment of folk music and culture. For the past 50 years, PFS has encouraged the growth of folk music through concerts, workshops, sings, and festivals. The Philadelphia Folksong Society is nationally known for its signature event, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, held each August at the Old Pool Farm in Schwenksville, PA.

The Philadelphia Folk Festival
Running nearly 50 years, the Philadelphia Folk Festival is one of the nation's oldest and most revered musical gatherings and is normally held the 3rd weekend in August. The Festival is hosted by Gene Shay and is a three-day extravaganza of traditional and contemporary folk performers, dance, crafts, camping, and children's activities.
