The Slip - "Eisenhower" (Bar/None)
Consisting of two brothers and a childhood friend, The Slip play like they know each other all their lives. Their Bar/None Records debut - Eisenhower - is a sonic treat, boasting powerful musical interaction with some very well written songs.
The Slip have been around for awhile - they're into their second decade playing together - and they have gone through a very interesting maturation process. Known well in the jam band world, Eisenhower does retain a bit of the "jam" (the genre), and adds a healthly dose of The Jam (the band). If this sounds like a strange combination, well... it is. The seemingly stream-of-consciousness "Children Of December" and the relentless (and catchy) "Even Rats" are two good starting points. The beautiful "If One Of Us Should Fall" may remind you of a George Harrison / Beatles track.
Above all, Eisenhower works best as an album experience. They are also wonderfully passionate live, as witnessed when they opened for My Morning Jacket at the Electric Factory a week or so ago. A Top 10 of '06 in my book...
