WXPN Names Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion April's XPN Artist To Watch

Folk-rock couple gets month-long spotlight starting Monday, April 4.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the non-commercial radio station from the University of Pennsylvania, has selected Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion as the XPN Artist To Watch for April 2005. On Monday, April 4 in the four o'clock hour, host David Dye will present the first of the month's daily on-air segments featuring this harmonious duo.

The power of the collaboration between the granddaughter of Woody/daughter of Arlo and her indie-rocker husband attracted the attention of XPN staffers when Guthrie and Irion released their debut album titled Exploration.

"Melodic, breezy, front porch tunes from a fantastic folk-rock duo," said Dye. "The album comes together in some great and unexpected ways."

"The songs are great, and they sound absolutely effortlessly recorded - a rare and beautiful thing, indeed, " added Dan Reed, WXPN music director. "This couple has certainly gotten our attention here at XPN. The new album sounds completely fresh, but totally committed to old school songwriting and melodies. A fantastic start."
