"Philly Bands Together" as more than 15 Local Musical Acts Perform 3rd Annual Benefit Concert for WXPN Musicians on Call Program

Concert showcases the huge talent and big hearts of Philadelphia-based musicians who will take the stage at World Cafe Live with all proceeds donated to program that helps patients with the healing process through live bedside performances in area hospitals.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – An extraordinary night of local music will take place for a 3rd year on Wednesday, December 20 at World Cafe Live as “Philly Bands Together” to benefit WXPN Musicians On Call, a weekly community outreach program that has brought live music to the bedsides of more than 5,000 patients in three area healthcare facilities since its launch in October 2004.

The 3rd Annual Philly Bands Together benefit concert will take over both the upstairs and downstairs venues at World Cafe Live with performances by more than 15 local groups and artists from the Philadelphia area, including Grey Eye Glances, Kate Gaffney, John Francis, Sharon Little with Scot Sax, Hoots & Hellmouth, John Faye(of Ike), Devin Greenwood, The Scenic Route, Andrew Lipke, The Bullets, Amanda Kaletsky, Ellipsis, Claire Dilullo, Three, Michael Kurman, Birdie Busch, Lili Anel, and Red Heart The Ticker.

World Cafe Live created this event in 2004 as a means of raising funds and awareness for WXPN Musicians On Call. Each year Dwayne Keith of Grey Eye Glances has volunteered his time in booking the artists and setting up the concert event.

“It’s been amazing to watch such a variety of musicians from the Philadelphia area step forward to volunteer their time and talents for this important program,” said Helen Leicht, WXPN’s mid-day host and Philly Local maven. “WXPN Musicians On Call is proof that the music community can have a positive impact in so many different and creative ways. To see how live music can change people’s lives and help them heal has been a wonderful experience.”

World Cafe Live is located at 3025 Walnut Street in Philadelphia. Tickets to this special benefit concert are $21 (including processing fees) and are available now at the World Cafe Live box office, online at http://tickets.worldcafelive.com, or by calling (215) 222-1400. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm. Full dinner service is available. All proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to WXPN Musicians On Call.

Ticket holders are encouraged to bring gently used CDs to donate for use in a future WXPN Musicians On Call CD Pharmacy, a collection of 200 CDs and personal CD players that are provided to hospitals for patients to use free of charge.

WXPN Musicians On Call delivers a year-round roster of volunteer local musicians who visit 30 or more patients per hospital each week for an intimate in-room performance. This pioneering collaboration between WXPN and the New York-based Musicians On Call program serves The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and, since May of 2006, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Expansion of the program in 2007 will include a fourth hospital and a second night of service to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
