WXPN Fall Arts Preview Provides Weeklong Review of Local Arts & Culture Events

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The annual Fall Arts Preview on WXPN kicks off on Monday, September 11 during the XPN Morning Show with Michaela Majoun, providing the first of the week’s daily look at regional arts and cultural “must-sees.” Throughout the week, the station will broadcast a total of five three-minute audio spotlights. Each broadcast will air in the 6:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. hours and will be posted on the Fall Arts Preview page at xpn.org along with a listing of other events in the region.

The weekly schedule includes:

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 – PERFORMING ARTS: Spotlight On Pig Iron Theater – Love Unpunished For the fifth anniversary of 9/11, this landmark collaboration between the OBIE-winning Pig Iron and choreographer David Brick of Headlong Dance Theater offers a meditation on love and grief in America in this story of an evacuation from a doomed office building which becomes a ritual of climbing and descending bodies, an athletic prayer and an unusual remembrance.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 – LITERATURE ARTS: Spotlight On Council For Literacy - Since 1968, CFL has been providing literacy services to adults, youth, and families throughout the greater Philadelphia area, and is considered a leader in the field. Events this season include Reading Writers, an evening of short stories read by Barrymore winning actors, and the Corporate/Celebrity Spelling BEE.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 – PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS: Spotlight On 9/11: A Nation Remembers The National Constitution Center presents an exhibition of original photographs by Jonathan Hyman, documenting how the American people responded to and remember the events of September 11.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 – VISUAL ARTS: 90th Anniversary Of Ukrainian League Of Philadelphia One of the oldest ethnic associations in Philadelphia starts its year long 90th anniversary celebration with an art exhibition of works by Ukrainian artists of all ages as part of the Fairmount Arts Crawl.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15 – MUSICAL ARTS: Spotlight on Little Steven’s Underground Garage Festival Steven Van Zandt is best known as the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s reformed E Street Band and as Silvio Dante on HBO’s The Sopranos. But rock ‘n roll is his religion and he’s on a mission to keep it alive with a syndicated show on commercial radio and the garage rock channel he programs for Sirius Satellite Radio. Van Zandt also created “Little Steven’s Underground Garage Festival” which is currently touring the country and will be at the TLA on September 23.

“XPN is an important voice for the arts and cultural life of our community,” said Majoun who provides the weekly Arts Crawl every Friday and arts and cultural reporting throughout the year on the XPN Morning Show. “The Fall Arts Preview is a way to raise awareness of the rich cultural offerings during the upcoming fall season.”
