WXPN Rings In 2007 with Lily Allen as The XPN Artist To Watch for January

PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, will name British pop singer-songwriter Lily Allen the XPN Artist to Watch for January 2007. Host David Dye, will present the first of the month’s on-air segments featuring Allen on Tuesday, January 2nd during the four o’clock hour.

Lily Allen has taken the UK by storm during the past six months with her debut album Alright, Still which is scheduled for release in the US late January. Allen’s chart-topping single “Smile” has been played on WXPN since its release last summer.

“Lily Allen is an exciting, fresh new artist, said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager for programming at WXPN. “She draws on rock and ska and pop with great songs, wry and often humorous observations on life's situations, and she's smart and sassy and fun.”

“We're betting that what Gnarls Barkley was to 2006, Lily Allen will be to 2007,” added Dan Reed, WXPN music director.

The XPN Artists To Watch series reflects WXPN’s commitment to nurturing fresh, new talent and exposing listeners to the best new music. Each month, the XPN Artists To Watch series spotlights a different up-and-coming performer who has produced an album or body of work that demonstrates outstanding vision, creativity and songwriting ability. Month-long on-air promotion is combined with online features to help audiences discover each artist.
