WXPN Names A New Afternoon Drive Time Host

PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, today announced that Jim McGuinn will become the afternoon drive time host on 88.5 FM WXPN effective Monday, April 16. McGuinn will be on air from 4pm-7pm Mondays through Thursdays following the nationally syndicated World Cafe® program, hosted by David Dye.

McGuinn replaces Dye whose schedule is being freed up so that he can focus more attention on the national show which has garnered greater attention since becoming part of the NPR roster of radio programs in 2005. Dye will continue to produce and host World Cafe® and will host Funky Friday each week from 4pm to 7pm.

"I love being on the air," said Dye. "It's been the center of my life, but it became apparent that in order to keep producing the World Cafe® at a high level something had to give. With this change, I can give the national show the attention it deserves and still make time to do the weekly Funk!"

McGuinn, the former program director for Y100 (WPLY), first joined WXPN in August of 2006 as the Program Director and on-air host for Y-Rock On XPN. McGuinn will continue to serve as program director for Y-Rock On XPN. A replacement for the host of the Y-Rock On XPN on-air broadcasts will be announced later.

"David Dye is the Dean of Philly rock DJs, and it's an honor to follow in his footsteps," said McGuinn. "It's been a blast doing the Y-Rock On XPN show on the air the past few months, and people may be surprised to learn how much a fan I am of all the colors of the XPN rainbow – from vintage blues to reggae to the best rock and roll of the past 40 years – Neil Young was my #1 artist on last year's Top 885 Artist countdown! I can't wait to present all the XPN music on the air in this new role with the station."

"I've known Jim since he came to Philly 15 years ago. He's a huge music fan and, in fact, has turned me on to a number of new bands," said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager for programming. "And it was important that we find someone like Jim who possesses the same vast musical knowledge and passion for radio that Michaela Majoun, Helen Leicht, Matt Reilly, and all of the XPN hosts share. I'm psyched to have him on the team."
