WXPN Features Ryan Bingham as the XPN Artist To Watch for December

PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Ryan Bingham as its December Artist To Watch. Host Jim McGuinn will present the first of the month’s on-air segments on Monday, December 3, in the 4 p.m. hour.

Drawing comparisons to recent country rock favorites like Ryan Adams, as well as flat-out legends like Willie Nelson and Tom Waits, Texas troubadour Ryan Bingham possesses musical maturity well beyond his years. The songs of this 25-year-old singer/songwriter play like worn sketches of raw American landscapes and the modern day desperados that fill them. Full of emotion and conviction, Bingham’s commanding and enthralling music has already made a name for the artist in his home state. Now, with the release of his debut album, Mescalito, last month, eminent Americana label Lost Highway Records shares with music lovers everywhere a true treasure of the Lonestar State.

"Ryan is a stellar story teller in the tradition of Joe Ely, James McMurtry and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, with a whiskey-soaked, cigarette stained voice,” said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager of programming for WXPN. ”He’s an up-and-coming new Texas Troubadour that we’re very excited about.”

WXPN music director Dan Reed said, “Ryan Bingham has one of those voices that just don’t come along very often. His songs and stories are timeless, actually, and it’s quite remarkable that a guy in his mid-20s could have so much insight. His new album is an altogether fantastic piece of work.”
