WXPN Features Dr. Dog as the XPN Artist To Watch for March 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Dr. Dog as its March, 2007 Artist To Watch. Host David Dye will present the first of the month’s on-air segments on Thursday, March 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.

Dr. Dog has been playing music and gaining fans in their hometown of Philadelphia for about six years. Their popularity swelled in 2004 when the band was invited to tour with My Morning Jacket after front man Jim James heard Dr. Dog’s first non-concept album Toothbrush. This success led to the release of Easy Beat, a critically acclaimed CD that garnered them a national fan base. Following tours with Architecture and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah the band returned to Philadelphia and spent the last half of 2006 recording We All Belong, which just released on February 27.

“We've been following the career of Dr. Dog here in Philly since their first album and they continue to grow musically,” said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager of programming for WXPN. “Their new album is a collection of classic rock influenced indie-rock that transcends both genres. If John Lennon, Todd Rundgren, Robbie Robertson and Alex Chilton were of the indie-rock era they'd sound a lot like Dr. Dog on their new album.”

WXPN music director Dan Reed adds, “Dr. Dog is a very unique band. They combine all kinds of influences and their songwriting keeps getting better and better. I predict nothing but good things from them, and I'm proud they're from here in Philly!”
