WXPN Honors 20 Years of World Cafe Programming with Two World Cafe Travel Adventures Radio station hosts Shades of Ireland Trip and offers Cayamo Cruise

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – WXPN (http://www.xpn.org), the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and a noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, today announced that it will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its World Cafe® program with two World Cafe Travel Adventures trips next year. WXPN and World Cafe® offer the Cayamo Cruise from February 13-20, 2011 and will host a Shades of Ireland trip from April 2-11, 2011 as part of the World Cafe® Travel Program. Both trips are open to the public.

During each trip, guests will have opportunities to enjoy exclusive musical experiences when World Cafe® host David Dye interviews some of the world’s leading musicians. Interviews and performances will be recorded for future World Cafe® broadcasts.

“For 20 years, WXPN’s World Cafe® has been dedicated to delivering a global perspective on music by integrating unique music genres from around the world into our programming,” said World Cafe® host David Dye. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone anniversary by now being able to bring our listeners to the music throughout Ireland and on board the Cayamo Cruise to the Carribean.”

From April 2-11, 2011, David Dye will be joined by dozens of guests on a 10-day tour through Ireland dubbed Shades of Ireland. Guests will discover the unique sounds of Ireland while sightseeing in Dublin, visiting the world-famous Waterford Crystal facility in Kilkenny, journeying to historic Blarney Castle in Killarney, traveling along the Ring of Kerry coastal route and experiencing the Molanna Dairy Farm, Cliffs of Moher and Tullamore Dew Heritage Center in Limerick.

WXPN and World Cafe® will embark on the Cayamo Cruise: A Journey Through Song hosted by Sixthman Alumni Travel Company. The cruise will take place aboard the Norwegian Pearl of Freestyle Cruising for eight days throughout the Caribbean. World Cafe® host David Dye will be joined by guests and musicians John Prine, Patty Griffin, Indigo Girls, Richard Thompson, Brandi Carlile and many others. Additional artists will be announced throughout the year. The ship leaves Miami on February 13, 2011 and returns to port on February 20, 2011. Stops on the cruise include Tortola, St. Croix and Great Stirrup Cay.

“I’m excited that WXPN can celebrate the 20th anniversary of World Cafe® with these special trips,” said WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay. “By offering listeners these opportunities to embark on an amazing musical journey with the unique Cayamo Cruise music festival experience and the exploration of the rich musical and cultural heritage of Ireland, we are able to truly bring the World Cafe® mission to life.”
