WXPN Features Mumford & Sons as the XPN Artist To Watch for June

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Mumford & Sons as its June Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed will present the first of the month's on-air segments on Tuesday, June 1 in the 4 p.m. hour.

London's own Mumford & Sons, with their unique indie-folk-rock sound, are making a real name for themselves in the U.S., and you'll soon understand why! Since forming in December 2007, Mumford & Sons have shared a common purpose: to make music that matters, without taking themselves too seriously. Four young men from West London in their early twenties, they have fire in their bellies, romance in their hearts, and rapture in their masterful, melancholy voices. Staunch friends - Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane - bring their music to us with the passion and pride of an old-fashioned, much-cherished, family business. They create a gutsy, old-time sound that marries the magic of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with the might of Kings Of Leon, and their incredible energy draws us in quickly to their circle of songs, to the warmth of their stories, and to their magical community of misty-eyed men.

"Mumford & Sons are really starting to strike a chord with audiences because of their amazing harmonies, interesting lyrics and great live performances," says Bruce Warren, Assistant General Manager of Programming for WXPN. "There is definitely something uniquely special going on with this band and you can hear it loud and clear on their new album."

Dan Reed says, "Rollicking, heartfelt tunes written by a guy who takes himself just seriously enough to make the songs dramatic. Fans of the Avett Brothers take note."
