WXPN Features JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound as the XPN Artist To Watch for December

PHILADELPHIA, PA - the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound as its December Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month's on-air segments today, December 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.

Described as being "the real deal" by the Chicago Tribune, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound infuse an amazing amount of soul and energy into every track, capturing the attention of listeners all over the United States, Europe, and Canada. The group produces toe-tapping rhythms and melodies, creating a lively and dynamic sound with soul unparalleled in much of today's indie music. The group has shared a stage with a vast array of performers, including Robert Plant, Buddy Guy, Fitz & the Tantrums, and Peter Bjorn & John, among others. JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound released their first album, Want More, under Bloodshot Records back in October to rave reviews, and they have a northeast tour in the works for this month. The group comes to Kung Fu Necktie on Thursday, December 15th, and play a Free at Noon on Friday the 16th at World Cafe Live in a double header with Gary Clark Jr. With such heart-wrenchingly soulful music combined with the group's famed theatrical performance, these shows are not to be missed!

"If you dig Fitz and the Tantrums, Daptone Records, Mayer Hawthorne, Otis Redding, Black Joe Lewis and J Geils, then chances are you'll get in to these cats," says Bruce Warren, Assistant General Manager of Programming for WXPN. "They are 200% soul power!"

Dan Reed says, "This is a young group of great musicians who use classic soul sounds as a starting point, but they certainly have a lot more influences that they nicely utilize. Their live shows are becoming legendary all over Chicagoland, and we can't wait to see these guys tear it up in person."
