WXPN Features Kopecky Family Band as the XPN Artist To Watch for December

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names the Kopecky Family Band as its December Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and host Dan Reed presented the first of the month's on-air segments today, December 3, in the 4 p.m. hour.

The Kopecky Family Band is a Nashville-based six piece ensemble featuring frontrunners Gabe Simon (guitar and vocals) and Kelsey Kopecky (vocals, keys) along with Steven Holmes (lead guitar), Corey Oxendine (bass), Markus Midkiff (cello), and David Krohn (drums). Although not actually related, the six members have a distinct chemistry onstage and in the studio, producing emotive, faintly orchestral melodies. Critics have compared the Kopecky six to heavyweights like The XX and Grouplove with a unique depth, style and sound. Since debuting their first EP, Embraces in 200, the band has since made waves at festivals like South by Southwest, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. The band released its first and widely anticipated album titled Kids Raising Kids in late October to rave reviews.

"We've been watching the Kopecky Family Band grow over the last year and we continue to be impressed by their musical maturity on record and as a live band," says Bruce Warren, Assistant General Manager of Programming for WXPN. "Their debut album more than lives up to the promise of their earlier work. They've got a musical voice that's at once familiar yet unique."

Dan Reed added, "Musically wise without being pretentious, they have crafted a wonderfully well-thought-out album in Kids Raising Kids. Their music truly bears more fruit the more you listen."
