WXPN Features Lianne La Havas as the XPN Artist To Watch for August

PHILADELPHIA, PA - WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Lianne La Havas as its August Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month's on-air segments today, August 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.

This English folk and soul singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has been making music ever since she began singing at age 7 and wrote her first song at age 11. Lianne La Havas cites her parents' diverse music interests as being the main influence for her music, as well as her father's help in learning piano and guitar basics as a young girl. Her music career really began to take off in 2010 when she signed with Warner Brothers Records, after which she took a year to develop her songwriting skills before making a public release. Lianne's debut EP Lost & Found was released in October of 2011 on the Labour of Love label to great acclaim, subsequently landing her the spot for supporting act in Bon Iver's December 2011 North American tour. Her opening track on Lost & Found, "No Room For Doubt," features sultry vocals, flowing acoustic guitar, and a duet with Willy Mason to create a masterful and easy-to-enjoy track. The title track off of her debut full-length album, Is Your Love Big Enough? is creating quite a stir as well in anticipation of the release of the album in the US in August.

"From the moment we heard Lianne's Is Your Love Big Enough we were struck by her musical lightning and we had to hear more. She has an absolutely gorgeous original voice and a debut album filled with stellar songs," says Bruce Warren, Program Director and On-Air Host at WXPN. "She's capable of big anthemic melodies with moments of incredible intimacy; ultimately it's about her breathtaking voice and incredibly accomplished songwriting."
