Delivering on the promise of her early releases, singer/producer Saya Gray makes her official full-length debut with the sonically captivating SAYA. On Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, his first solo album in over a decade, Drive-By Truckers leader Patterson Hood collaborates with Waxahatchee and members of The Decemberists on a set of expansive Americana. Inspired by the eerie sounds and visions she experienced while living in her late father’s 100-year-old house in Tennessee, Sunny War continues to balance her love of traditional folk and hardcore punk on Armageddon in a Summer Dress.
Trevor Powers foregrounds propulsive rhythms on Rarely Do I Dream, his fifth album as Youth Lagoon. A love letter to love itself, Basia Bulat’s Basia’s Palace spotlights the Canadian songwriter’s sentimental side. The Stylistics return with Falling in Love with My Girl; under the direction of founding members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell, the Philly Soul legends’ first LP since 2008 features contributions from Shania Twain and members of Elton John’s classic-era backing band. Coinciding with Aridjis Fuentes’s documentary about the elusive singer’s unlikely career, Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus collects a decade’s worth of unheard material from the late artist née Diane Luckey.
