As another month draws to a close, we officially welcome the first new albums of summer! Sophie Allison makes an ambitious and razor-sharp return on Sometimes, Forever, her third album as Soccer Mommy. With Meet the Moonlight, Jack Johnson fully embraces his mystical side, partnering with producer Blake Mills for an easygoing set. Lovelorn charm abounds on Regina Spektor’s home, before and after, the songwriter’s first LP in six years. Ohio’s Caamp deliver a rousing collection of modern folk on Lavender Days.
Los Angeles trio MUNA expand their well-honed pop to widescreen proportions on their self-titled third album. Hollie Cook blends lover’s rock with late-night cocktail jazz on the neon-lit Happy Hour. Finally, a pair of standout guests from this year’s NonComm make their long-awaited returns: Philly favorite G. Love fuses delta blues with old-school hip-hop on Philadelphia Mississippi, and Canadian glam-rock enigma Art d’Ecco upshifts his glittery anthems on After the Head Rush.
