Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard responds to “You were my favorite band in high school”

Tomorrow, Death Cab for Cutie’s 11th studio album ‘I Built You A Tower’ comes out.

And last month, Raina Douris sat down with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard to talk about the new music and reflect on the band’s legacy.

“There are times when people come up to me who are now in their, let’s say, late 30s or whatever, and they’ll say something like, ‘You were my favorite band in high school,'” said Gibbard.

Though he acknowledges that some artists may have mixed feelings about this sentiment, Gibbard remembers his favorite teenage album–The Cure’s 1989 ‘Disintegration’–and remarks, “that’s the greatest compliment you can be given.”
