East Los Angeles-based, Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia, draws inspiration from all over the world and utilizes Pan-American rhythms including cumbia, bossa nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz, rock and klezmer music.
"…La Santa Cecilia's lead singer La Marisoul is as charismatic as Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes) and so much fun. Elvis Costello is a big fan too, singing with her in concert and on his new album Wise Up Ghost." ~ World Cafe host David Dye
In Latin Roots, the bi-weekly series heard on World Cafe, Dye explores the vast variety of music from Spanish-speaking countries and people, from cumbia, mambo and son to Latin rock, reggaeton, and more. The series airs every other Thursday during the second hour of the World Cafe program and is made possible by a grant from the Wyncote Foundation.
