Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Novemeber 15, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band join host David Dye. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been performing for a little over 50 years with an ever evolving line up of musicians.
Tuba player Allan Jaffe bought Preservation Hall, the band’s home base in New Orleans, in 1961 and in the decades that followed he helped bring the group fans from all over the world. His son, Ben Jaffe, who plays tuba as well, took over leading the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in 1993. In an unusual move for the venerable New Orleans institution, the band has wrote all new material for their latest disc That’s It! The album was produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket. Ben Jaffe joins us to share the inspiration behind some of the new songs and why the group decided to devote themselves to songwriting with this record in the first place. And Buddy Guy. He discusses how he sees the state of the blues today, almost 50 years after he made his first recording, and shares songs from his latest album Rhythm and Blues. That’s this week on Conversations from the World Cafe!
