December 6, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Laura Marling joins host David Dye. 23 year old Laura Marling has released four albums in the 5 years she has been making records, all excellent, haunting examples of London’s new folk movement.
November 29, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, the Tedeschi Trucks Band joins host David Dye at NPR’s brand new performance space in Washington, DC. In 2011 singer Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks, both successful with separate music careers, did something that they had not previously tried in the 14 years that they have been together as a couple.
Novemeber 15, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band join host David Dye. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been performing for a little over 50 years with an ever evolving line up of musicians.
November 8, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Graham Nash joins host David Dye in the studio. Graham Nash just completed a book called Wild Tales: A Rock & Roll Life which details the many amazing musical moments this talented songwriter and singer has had over the last half century.
November 1, 2013 - Tom Jones started his enviable career as a hit maker with 1965’s “It’s Not Unusual.” Now, decades later, he has turned to well respected producer Ethan Johns to help craft some of his best work. For their second effort together, Tom Jones and Ethan Johns moved to contemporary songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits.
October 25, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, the surviving members of The Clash join host David Dye in the studio. The Clash put out their self titled debut in 1977 and in a few short years earned the title “The Only Band That Matters” for their ambitious music, astute lyrics and take no prisoners attitude.
October 18, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Neko Case joins host David Dye in the studio. Neko Case has had a long-running role in the Canadian group The New Pornographers. She also has had a very successful solo career.
October 11, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Pearl Jam preview their brand new album Lightening Bolt in a special interview led by comedy filmmaker Judd Apatow.
October 4, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Elvis Costello and The Roots join host David Dye in the studio. In 1976 Elvis Costello released his acclaimed debut My Aim is True. In the years that followed he was lauded for his pioneering new wave music with The Attractions as well as the solo work he did after splitting with that group.
September 27, 2013 - This week on Conversations from the World Cafe, Jack Johnson joins host David Dye in the studio. Songwriter and surfer Jack Johnson creates sunny, relaxed albums fitting with his life in Hawaii. Like past discs, his new album From Here To Now To You was inspired by his wife of 13 years.
