Iris DeMent

Iris Dement Singer-songwriter Iris DeMent was born the youngest child of a large, Pentecostal family in rural Arkansas. She later moved to southern California and grew up listening to traditional country and gospel music that largely influenced her folk-country sound.
However, DeMent didn’t write her first song until she was 25-years-old and released her first album five years later. Since her first release, Infamous Angel, in 1992, DeMent has bloomed as a songwriter. The country crooner has found her niche in the folk country scene and put out four albums and sung with greats such as John Prine, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris. Her latest album, Sing the Delta, has a very southern feel to it, as the songs she wrote are about her life in the Arkansas Delta. In this World Cafe session, Iris performs live, including "If That Ain't Love," a song she wrote about her Dad. Her new album is set fro release on October 2nd. It's her first album in eight years.
