Sam Amidon

Sam Amidon’s Music May Have Traditional Roots, But These Are Not Your (Grand)Father’s Fiddle Tunes!

August 6, 2013 - Sam Amidon’s parents were folk performers in Vermont where he grew up. His best friend was fellow musician and arranger Thomas Bartlett (Doveman).

Put those elements together and you begin to understand the mesmerizing new music that Amidon makes out of traditional tunes with Bartlett as band-mate/producer. His fourth album, Bright Sunny South, on Nonesuch Records, has all of Amidon’s influences represented and goes beyond tradition to include a Tim McGraw cover and some of the free-jazz that Sam loves and studied in his twenties.
