Carrie Rodriguez at World Cafe Live

Carrie Rodriguez joins us for the Free at Noon show at World Cafe Live.
A co-production of WXPN and NPR Music.

Carrie Rodriguez A classically trained violinist, smoky singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez incorporates virtuoso fiddle skills into an Americana sound. With a country pop sound firmly set in a folk background, Rodriguez' music is traditional and exploratory at the same time.

Born in Austin to a musically inclined family, Rodriguez attended Berklee College of Music where she was introduced to the fiddle. Discovered by songwriter Chip Taylor at a music festival in her hometown a few years later, she was soon collaborating with him in recordings and performances. After several studio LPs with Taylor, Rodriguez released her solo debut in 2006, Seven Angels on a Bicycle, co-written with Taylor. The debut was lauded by critics for its seamless blend of country, pop, and even an unexpected pinch of jazz. Now, two years later, Rodriguez has released a second solo album, She Ain't Me, in which she emphasizes her own songwriting over the past collaboration with Taylor. She says, "Because I took some chances, wrote with some new people and actually co-wrote most of the songs on the album, it's very different." She Ain't Me is more individualistic and has less of a studio polish than any of Rodriguez' previous releases. It covers more intimate topics - love, politics, and a search for identity - all underscored by Rodriguez' gritty fiddle playing.
