Aaron Lee Tasjan On World Cafe

  • Listen:
Aaron Lee Tasjan on World Cafe Aaron Lee Tasjan is a singer-songwriter out of Nashville, but when you think Americana his sound might not be what comes to mind. His third studio album, Karma for Cheap, is a collection of reactionary songs to the climate of 2018 and how he views the political cacophony. He joins host Stephen Kallao to talk about his album’s positive message of unity, what being labeled Americana in 2018 means, and whether he thinks substance use helps his songwriting. All this, on the next World Cafe.
Tasjan's latest album walks a fine line between timelessness and a record very much of this moment.
Aaron Lee Tasjan has a way with words and on his latest album, Karma For Cheap, he walks a fine line between timelessness and a record very much of this moment. For instance, one of his new songs is called "The Truth Is So Hard To Believe." It's easy to think about post-truths and fake news with a title like that as a chorus, but to Tasjan, the song is about something a little more personal. He says he wrote it about the truths you tell and don't tell yourself - and making the effort to recognize the difference between the two.
