Vintage Cafe Looking Back At Jason Isbell’s Southeastern With His Wife Amanda Shires

After a successful six years of recording and performing, former Drive-By Tuckers guitarist and songwriter Jason Isbell left the iconic rock band to explore his own musical identity.

The Best World Cafe Performances From 2013
We sifted through all 188 bands and individual artists that joined us to perform on the World Cafe in 2013 and we have settled on the very best for these two hours. It wasn’t easy.
I get to sit opposite singers or in the midst of the bands (I’m usually next to the drummer) every day as we talk about the music. It’s only later as we listen to the playback that I get to hear how extraordinary the songs we capture really are. Nobody phones it in. Even if they have driven all night from Boston they bring it for The World Cafe and ultimately you.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jason Isbell rose to fame in 2001 after joining the alt-country rock band Drive-By Truckers. Isbell cut his teeth writing, recording and touring with the band for six years and put out three records with them before leaving the band in 2007 to start a new project. That same year Isbell released his first solo album, Sirens of the Ditch, before forming Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit. Isbell put out two albums with his band the 400 Unit between 2009 and 2011, but has since transitioned back into a solo act for his fourth studio album, Southeastern, which was released in June 2013. Each of Isbell's solo albums seems to out-do the last, which holds true for the most recent album, which showcases Isbell's thoughtful lyrics and steady southern drawl. The talented lyricist and performer, who has previously toured with Ryan Adams, will be making a stop on his U.S. tour at World Cafe Live for a full show on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 8pm.
