The Pines On Mountain Stage

Loading the player ...
Led by Benson Ramsey and David Huckfelt, ethereal folk-rock group The Pines makes its first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Paramount Theater in Bristol, Tenn./Va. As a young boy growing up Iowa, Ramsey watched as his father — producer and guitarist Bo Ramsey — helped craft the definitive alt-country sound alongside Lucinda Williams. Echoing stark moments from fellow Midwesterners like The Jayhawks, The Replacements and Bob Dylan, The Pines' members round out their atmospheric country-folk sounds with lush keyboard tones courtesy of Benson's brother Alex.
In spite of the duo's upbringing among America's plains and prairies, Benson and Huckfelt first met and began working together in Arizona, where the two had traveled to figure out their lives. They discovered an overlap in their musical tastes, and soon began writing original material together. The pair's third and most recent album is titled Dark So Gold.
This Mountain Stage performance was originally published on June 7, 2012.
