Another Philadelphia-based group, The Great Unknown had humble beginnings. Playing quietly so as not to wake their elderly neighbors, they began in a grandfather's apartment surrounded by family pictures and antique furniture. There, singer Todd Henkin and guitarist Matt Goldsborough worked through the winter, fostering a creative partnership that would go on to become a five-person band. The idea was to create tightly crafted songs that had easily relatable stories and melodies, and on Tonight Let's Pretend, their debut album, they do just that. Blending influences as diverse as Woody Guthrie, the moon, Isiah Zagar, Japanese fighting fish, the unconscious, and Hank Aaron, The Great Unknown is an American rock band unique to themselves.
