Philadelphia's own Toy Soldiers have grown from a tossed together duo started by primary singer-songwriter Ron Gallo in 2007 to an ever-changing sized, wildly energetic group of friends and musicians that wander freely in and out of the roots of American music. The band fluently jumps around the spectrum from down and dirty blues rock n' roll to harmony driven traditional country tunes with a wide array of instruments and a stockpile of lead and backup singers. Their first album Whisper Down the Lane was released on MAD Dragon records in May. WXPN's Bruce Warren describes it as "a righteous collection of rootsy, jangly, scraggly, soulful indie inspired songs that bring to mind Shangri-La era Kinks, Nashville Skyline-era Dylan, Bright Eyes and the Black Keys, The Coasters and Carl Perkins. Rock it."
