Scott and Seth Avett have played music together since they were children, collaborating long before their 2007 breakthrough album Emotionalism put them on the Americana map. They played together and separately in several bands, but before long they felt themselves drawn to the folk and country music of their childhood in North Carolina. In 2002, they released their debut as The Avett Brothers, Country Do. Though it would be years before their critical success, the boys knew that, as they say on their website, "there is no harmony like brotherly harmony." Judging by the success of their 2009 album I and Love and You, which reached #16 on the Billboard 200 bestselling albums and #1 in folk albums, they know what they're talking, or harmonizing, about. You can listen to their 2009 live performance and interview on World Cafe here.
