Kaki King made her guitar-playing debut on the subways of New York. Competing for attention with rattling uptown trains and the incessant buzz of New York life, the Georgia native developed a unique instrumental style that began to win out over A trains and missed connections. Her percussive style and intricate compositions have garnered her more than the attentions of morning commuters; King earned a Golden Globe for her work composing the original score of the 2007 film Into the Wild and became the first woman to receive the title of a "Guitar God" by Rolling Stone Magazine. Heaped with these accolades, King also sits upon five full-length albums (her latest, Junior, was released in 2010). Additionally, King has worked on albums with sister act Tegan & Sara, alt rockers the Foo Fighters, and teen icon Miley Cyrus. Her music has placed her firmly in the realm of contemporary guitar masters, though she would modestly describe herself in simple terms: "I'm very small and I play very large guitars."
King is currently on a world tour, and will join dozens of other artists in July for the XPoNential Music Festival.
